Khatra Tile

A rebuild, redesign and extension of a website more than 10 years old for a tile company, on WordPress with custom plugins. Close to 800 products and over 14,000 images standardised, with the SEO structure kept intact.

Khatra Tile

Khatra Tile is a long-established tile company in Vietnam whose clients include many large corporations. The project ran in two phases: restructuring and standardising the system in 2025 (4 months), then adding modular features in 2026, namely Khatra Showcase (a 2D and 3D experience) and Perxel AI Translate.

Context and the rebuild

The owner is technically skilled and built and ran the website personally for years. Keeping a business website alive for more than 10 years, growing a large body of data and holding the number one SEO position in the tile industry for a long time is a real achievement on the client's side.

After 10 years, the site had collected close to 800 products, over 14,000 images and a lot of hardcoded strings left behind by older page builders. Once the data passed a certain size, the architecture started to show its limits: a slow admin area, slower page loads for visitors and new features that were hard to add.

Goals of the 2025 rebuild:

  • Redesign and rebuild. The new design was built on WordPress and WPBakery, matching the old system so the client could keep their editing habits, with the theme code written from scratch.
  • Keep the SEO structure. URL structure preserved, so the site's search rankings in the tile industry stayed in place.

Data cleanup and infrastructure (phase 1, 2025)

  • AI-assisted data cleanup. Perxel used AI tooling to scan and convert the content of close to 800 products in bulk, removing the extra hardcoded strings left by the old page builder while keeping the original text, structure and images.
  • Optimising over 14,000 images. The whole image library, built up over more than 10 years, was compressed and standardised. Storage dropped considerably while the fine surface detail of the tiles stayed sharp.
  • Hosting cost advice. Perxel advised Khatra Tile on a hosting setup that fits the real size of the site, removing unused resources and cutting the monthly running cost.

Result after 4 months: the admin area loads noticeably faster and updating posts and managing products is smoother. Pages load well on the PageSpeed metrics, and rankings for the key tile keywords held steady.

New features and modules (phase 2, 2026)

Because the codebase was cleaned up in 2025, adding advanced features in 2026 went smoothly. Both features below ship as standalone custom plugins.

The "Khatra Showcase" plugin (2D and 3D experience)

  • Native 3D. Perxel built the 3D viewer with Three.js instead of embedding a third-party viewer. The 3D interface matches the site's existing UI and adds no unnecessary code.
  • Modular. The 2D image interactions (GSAP) and the 3D product viewer are packaged inside the Khatra Showcase plugin. The client can install or remove it at any time without affecting the core features.

The "Perxel AI Translate" plugin (translation at scale)

The task was to add an English version of close to 1,000 posts (800 products, project posts, SEO pages and blog posts), about 2.8 million words in total.

  • Approach. Perxel built a dedicated translation plugin as a reusable module for other WordPress projects, connected directly to the Google Gemini Flash 3.7 API.
  • Execution. Translating all 2.8 million words takes two clicks in the admin and finished within one day of processing.
  • Cost. The API cost for 2.8 million words was about USD 8. By the project's own calculation, that is roughly 600 times cheaper than buying AI credits from the WPML plugin for the same volume.

Outcome

Khatra Tile shows how Perxel handles web systems with a large amount of data: respecting the SEO structure and the editing habits formed over more than 10 years, choosing sensible hosting, fixing technical bottlenecks at the root so later features come faster, and packaging AI tooling into useful modules for data cleanup and large-scale translation. The base of the whole project is a freshly written WordPress custom theme.
